Stamford is a pleasant, family-oriented community located 35 miles north of Abilene on the West Texas prairie, home of some of the most beautiful sunrises and sunsets you will ever see, and the warmest, friendliest people you will ever meet. In Stamford, you will enjoy an unhurried atmosphere with an outstanding school system, low crime rate, low taxes and great housing and land values that are well below the state and national average.
Stamford’s economy relies primarily on agricultural production of cotton, wheat and cattle. We are also famous for the Texas Cowboy Reunion, a pro and amateur rodeo which is held every July. Stamford has a highly-rated independent school system and is home of the Stamford Bulldogs. The Bulldogs have won six state football championships most recently winning back-to-back titles in 2012 and 2013. The Lady Bulldogs claimed a state championship in softball in 2021.

The only municipal utility in town is water, which can be activated by visiting City Hall located at 201 E McHarg St from 8 a.m. -5 p.m. Your gas is provided by Atmos Energy, and you have a free choice of electric providers. We also have a couple of quality internet providers who have provided high-speed fiber internet across town.

Stamford has several options in the form of entertainment and fun for the whole family. Our Historic Grand Theatre and Museum of the West Texas Frontier are open regularly on the weekends for family fun. Also, if you love sports our High School teams are great to watch during the school year. In the summer, folks enjoy boating and fishing at Lake Stamford. We are also lucky to have 3 different music and dancing venues that regularly host concerts and country dances. And don’t forget about the Texas Cowboy Reunion rodeo, art show, and concert series around July 4th weekend every year! We are also home to several civic and non-profit organizations who love to have volunteers assist them throughout the year.

Our weather is typically on par with what one would expect in West Texas. We have your typical hot summers and cold winters, with not much rain year-round. Spring and Fall are nice as well! Our biggest weather threat? Wind. It’s just something you grow to love! The good news is tornadoes are not frequent in our area - though not totally out of the question.

Our primary industries are agriculture and education, but we have many businesses (both local and corporate) that call Stamford home. Stamford is also a great place for online or freelance work, as our city infrastructure has recently been upgraded to support high speed fiber internet. We are also a short commute to the largest city in our area, Abilene, which has a large medical facility and lots of work opportunities as well. Of course, we would love for you to work in Stamford if you can stay here.

We have an amazing outpatient clinic in town. Emergency facilities are in Haskell (15 mins north) and Abilene (30 mins south). We don’t have a dentist in town, but there are some great ones within 15-30 minutes.

Our county Driver’s License office is located in Anson, Texas (the County Seat of Jones County) just 15 miles south of Stamford. If you have an out of state vehicle, you can visit the Tax Office in Anson to complete your paperwork to get a new title and Texas license plate for your car.
